If you are in business, then you are also in the business of "Marketing," regardless of product or service type. And, you had best pay attention to the fact that effective marketing methodologies are changing right before our eyes. One rule that doesn't change regarding Internet marketing is the power of diversifying your marketing through MULTIPLE CHANNELS. Your business will benefit by having multiple potential points of contact both on and off the Internet. Gone are the days of having a single website. Gone are the days of relying on a Yellow Pages ad. While there is nothing wrong with either of these concepts, you're not going to achieve many return "looks" from a person once they've seen your website or your Yellow Pages ad. And less and less people utilize a phone book when they can type in a quick Google search to quickly acquire all the information they need. While a single visit to a website or Yellow Pages ad can produce business, single exposures rarely create customers.
Rather than think in terms of "either/or" for a marketing strategy, savvy business owners must think in terms of multiple channels and multiple points of customer contact - "A plus B plus C plus D, etc." It's not a single website anymore, it's Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs, E-mail, Posterous, Wordpress, MySpace, and FourSquare, to name a few.
For instance, the hottest trend in advertising and customer acquisition currently, is Smart Phone Advertising (SPA). This incredible, relatively new development is growing faster than the Internet, and it works! The growth statistics for SPA are astounding. Traffic increases almost immediately upon SPA implementation, and the current timing is excellent, although not for long. Few businesses have taken advantage of this concept, but the ones who have are, for the most part, already experiencing new visitors and accordingly, increased sales!
You can get started in Smart Phone Advertising at a basic level with free apps and software. Developing your campaign will require a knowledgeable SPA professional. They can get you "in the game" in little to no time, and you will likely be amazed, not only at how cool this technology is, but more importantly, how many more people will find your business via their Smart Phone!
